Dutch Wooden Shoe Cafe

The Dutch Wooden Shoe Cafe nestled between Riley Park and Little Mountain on Cambie Street is a quaint little eatery that serve up an amazing menu combination of traditional Dutch Pannenkoeken and Indonesian Rijsttafel (which literally means "rice table").

Now the interior of the restaurant is not at all pretty bordering on the fringes of 70-style vintage decor. There is a mish-mash of eclectic touristy-dutch knick-knacks (i.e. wooden shoes, flags, etc.) and walls of collectible beer glasses, mugs and steins. Taped on the walls are old polaroid style photos of customers who have stopped to dine. But we didn't come for the interior decor, we came for the food. The menu here at the Wooden Shoe is so extensive and so we needed a bit of time before ordering. Thank goodness are waitress was lovely and patient despite the restaurant slowly filling up and getting busy.

Leiz - I settled on the Indonesia Nasi Goreng. Stir-Fried Rice with veggies, herbs and spices, topped off with two perfectly cooked eggs that you could slather with a bit of sambal. A side of house salad dressed in ranch and shrimp chips (or "kroepoek") rounded off this more than generous portion. The meal was fantastic with it's textures - crispy, chewy, soft, vevety and exotic spices. It was hard not to finish it up in one sitting.

Jean-François - I ordered a Sweet Pannekoek Fantasies #33 - Apple N'Grilled Banana, topped with cinnamon sugar, whipped cream and strawberry jam. Number 33 was amazing. The flavours all blended and melted into one another harmoniously, I just wish the dish was served with more than one-layer of pannekoek. I left feeling somewhat unsatiated and hungry.

All in all...this place is a Must EAT Here!
