Aphrodite's Organic Café - Food for the Body, Food for the Soul

Allan Christian, the original founder of Aphrodite's believed that opening up an organic pie shop in the city would be a great way to bring in more nutritious and wholesome produce normally found on farms. This was soon followed up with his award winning Café which was voted Vancouver’s Best Kept Secret in 2006.

Leiz - Being a vegetarian, it's sometimes hard to find that one place that can satisfy you, as well as your carnivore-husband. Well...this place did.

Feeling pequish and looking for a quick place to eat, before having to pick up the kids from the music studio, we chanced on this tucked-away Café based on our parking, which was conveniently located less than block away.

We were greeted by two friendly wait-staffs who seated us at a table of our choosing. With the late-afternoon being warm and mild, we opted to sit on the patio located just on the side and away from the noise of 4th Avenue traffic.

Their menu had an amazing aray of items to choose from and frankly it all sounded delicious. In the end what piqued my interest was the Harvest Vegetarian Chili - four-types of organic beans served in a rich tomato sauce, seasonal greens and homemade multi-grain bread.

Needless to say it was amazing.

Jean-François - I had the Wild (locally line-caught) Salmon Burger. And it wasn't a pressed-patty type of burger, but a beautiful seared to near perfection fillet. This was served on their own freshly baked organic multi-grain bread, roasted garlic aioli, spinach pesto, pickled red onions and tomato. I must say that I found my burger a bit small, hardly bigger that a slider.

I washed it all down with a local draught, Dogwood IPA, a refreshing golden beer with a long hoppy finish.

But we didn't stop here. To top off our meal, we ordered a mile-high Chocolate Banana Cream Pie. Now normally, I'm not a fan of desserts found in restaurants, since most of them seem to be all the same from one place to another, but this was exceptional and unforgettable. Aphrodite obviously uses only the best choice ingredients, albeit on the pricey side of things, it was certainly worth every penny. A definite Must EAT Here!.
