Maenam is phenom

Maenam is a small restaurant found in the nooks and crannies of Kitsilano. Its decor is simple and unpretentious, but the food reflects an intense complexity of aromas with a spicy edge.

Owner Chef Angus An brings to Vancouver the eastern philosophy of balance by harmonizing rich flavours with seasonal products found in the lower Mainland. Chef An's delicious creations can transport you to the exotic Indochinese peninsula and into the Kingdom of Thailand.

We began our gastronomic journey with a $12 starter - Betal Leaf Wrap with Grilled Prawns (or Miang Goog). Chef An prepares this amazing dish with ginger, lime, peanuts, coconut, caramelized palm sugar and galangal dressing.

For the main course, I ordered Smoked Salmon Salad with Pomelo (or Yum Plah Salmon). A crispy fried Salmon with skin, ikura, toasted coconut and peanuts. A spicy and refreshing meal for a hot summer evening.

Jean-François (who likes his meals on the more mild side) ordered the 3 Flavour Paradise Farm Pork Ribs (or Moo Samrot). A whole rack of pork ribs crisped to perfection and glazed in 3 flavourful sauces. To balance the heat and sweetness of our dishes, we ordered up a small bowl of freshly steamed aromatic jasmine rice.

This sweet little gem is huge on flavours and is highly recommended as a Must Eat Here!
