A little bit of Cuba at Havana Restaurant

Another Friday mid-morning and we were looking for something different. Luckily, we stumbled and found a little bit of Cuba at Havana Restaurant. I love this place, it's a retro flashback of Cuba in the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. Their funky decor consists of walls simply decorated in a rustic paint colour and scratched into the walls are names of people and maybe places and things. A living memorabilia for first time customers and long-time patrons. Also hanging from these walls, are an eclectic mix of old-time vintage photographs of Cuba.

We arrived just around 11:30am...so just before the noontime rush. Seating wasn't hard to get and we cozied up into the far corner of the restaurant.

Perusing the menu, I couldn't decide on whether to choose from the Anytime Selection or Breakfast Menu. I chose breakfast.

I had a yen for something spicy and the perfect choice for me was the Soft Veggie Taco, that was served on a soft warmed mazina tortillas and a bed of fresh shaved lettuce. This taco was piled high with Black Bean Purree, Aspsaragus, Roasted Red Peppers, Tomato and Pebre Salsa that was topped off with Fried Onions. The flavours melded beautifully together yet each flavour was distinct and discernible.

Jean-François - I ordered Eggs Benedict. Two perfectly poached eggs served on top of Black Forest Ham that surprisngly wasn't at all greasy and lightly toasted English Muffin. The Hollandaise served on the side was a beautiful emulsion of lemon juice, vinegar, butter and egg yolks. A side of crisp and tasty hash browns to finish off the hunger.

We went to Havana for the food, but listen up folks, this restaurant is not only an award winning restaurant that offers "Nuevo Latino Cuisine and authentic Cuban cocktails", it also houses an Art Gallery and Theatre that puts on plays, poetry readings and cool jazz music. A definite Must EAT Here!
